Built by Farmers,
for Farmers.
KilimoDairy was built to close the gaps Kenyan dairy farmers face every day — from paper records to guesswork breeding decisions.
Every smallholder deserves
enterprise-grade tools.
Large commercial dairy farms in Kenya use expensive software to track every cow, every milk session, every treatment. The smallholder with 5–50 cows — who produces 80% of Kenya's milk — uses a notebook or nothing at all.
KilimoDairy changes that. We built the same tools large farms use, rebuilt them for the realities of smallholder farming — offline-first, mobile-first, Swahili-friendly, M-Pesa payments — and priced them at less than a bag of dairy meal per month.
How We Got Here
KilimoDairy wasn't designed on a whiteboard first. Each part of the platform exists because of a specific, everyday problem on Kenyan dairy farms that nothing else was solving well.
Records lived in notebooks — or nowhere at all
Calving dates, vaccination schedules, and milk yields were scattered across exercise books, memory, and the occasional WhatsApp message to a vet. When a notebook got lost or rained on, years of breeding history went with it. We built milk, health, breeding and finance logging that lives on the phone every farmer already carries.
World-class genetics, zero local information
Semen from GENEX, ABS, Semex and other top studs has been available in Kenya for years — but a farmer choosing a bull had almost nothing to go on beyond a NAAB code on a straw. Proof sheets are written for US and European dairies, in units and traits that don't translate to a Kenyan herd. We built a bull catalogue that translates those proofs into ratings that actually mean something on a Kenyan farm — and put KAGRC's own proven bulls in the same place, side by side with the imports.
Finding semen meant calling around blind
Even once a farmer picked a bull, finding who actually stocked it nearby meant phoning agrovet after agrovet, often discovering it was out of stock after a wasted trip. We built a marketplace where suppliers list what they have, where they are, and farmers can check stock before they travel.
Feeding by guesswork, not by the numbers
Dairy meal is the single biggest cost on most farms, yet rations were mixed by habit — the same scoop for a cow giving 8 litres and one giving 20. We built a least-cost ration planner using real Kenyan feed prices, so every shilling of feed goes toward milk instead of waste.
Advice was a phone call away — if you could reach anyone
A vet or extension officer often isn't available exactly when a question comes up — a cow off her feed at 6am, a heat that might be missed by evening. We built an AI Dairy Advisor that's available any time, trained on dairy management for Kenyan conditions.
Our Values
Farmer First
Every product decision starts with one question: does this make life easier for a farmer with 20 cows in Nakuru?
Mobile First
Kenya is a mobile-first country. KilimoDairy works beautifully on a KES 8,000 Android phone with 2G connectivity.
Data Belongs to Farmers
Your farm data is yours. We will never sell it, share it, or use it to train AI without your explicit consent.
Fair Pricing
A platform that helps farmers should be priced for farmers. KES 1,500/month is less than one vet call.
